Who is profiting from high gas prices?
April 3, 2012The Richmond Times-Dispatch Virginia Politics blog shares, "You may have seen the 30-second TV ad by the American Energy Alliance hitting President Barack Obama over gas prices. Today, a group is launching a new ad pushing back... The ad says 'Big Oil' is behind the ad hitting the president. 'The money they make from high gas prices is going right into Mitt Romney's campaign,' the ad's narrator says." Progressive Point: Virginians want real transportation solutions, but big oil only wants you to keep paying more at the pump. And while Virginia families are working to pay these high prices, conservatives like Mitt Romney and George Allen want to play political blame games because they are benefiting from huge big oil campaign contributions. We are paying the price at the pump so they can keep giving the gas companies tax handouts. Romney and Allen won't lower gas prices, but they will raise big oil's profits. Their plans for more drilling and more tax giveaways for big oil won't make our day-to-day lives any better, but it will keep their campaign donations coming in. So when you and your family are standing at the gas pump, paying the price, remember--big oil isn't the only one benefiting, conservatives are getting paid off too. |
