We won--Voting Rights Upheld

August 6, 2012

This morning at the meeting of the State Board of Elections, the rights of voters across the Commonwealth were upheld as the board did not entertain a motion to investigate the extraordinarily successful efforts of the Voter Participation Center to register 16,000 voters so far this year.

Progressive Point: Voting is a fundamental American freedom that should be protected at all costs. We applaud the State Board of Elections for affirming this and rightly rejecting the overtly partisan attempt by the Romney campaign to interfere with our right to vote. Now eligible voters are able to register to vote without the fear that their lawful applications will be rejected for partisan reasons. Our democracy is stronger when every citizen participates. The work of organizations like the Voter Participation Center ensure that every eligible citizen can cast a ballot that counts.
