Virginia should be for ALL lovers
October 11, 2011
Today is the last day for public comment on whether Virginia should ban gays and lesbians from adopting. Today is also National Coming Out Day.
The Progressive Point: Being a good parent isn't about being gay or straight--its about giving a child a loving, safe, healthy home. Too many children are waiting to find their families to allow discrimination to get in the way. Families come in all shapes and sizes. This is about kids having a safe, stable home with a loving environment that allows them to thrive and succeed. Shame on those who would allow sexual orientation to get in the way.
Get The Facts: Kids who are raised by gay parents are just as healthy and well-adjusted as kids raised by straight parents. (Source: American Society of Pediatrics)
The American Society of Pediatrics and the Child Welfare League of America agree: whether a parent is gay or straight has nothing to do with their ability to be a good parent. (Source: American Society of Pediatrics, Child Welfare League of America, Media Matters Message Matters)
