Thank you, President Obama

May 10, 2012

Yesterday, The Huffington Post reported, "In a nod to a dramatic shift in public opinion, Barack Obama on Wednesday became the first sitting president to announce his support for same-sex marriage... 'at a certain point I've just concluded that for me personally it is important for me to go ahead and affirm that I think same sex couples should be able to get married,' he said."

Progressive Point: Real leadership is doing the right thing, even when the right thing isn't popular or easy. Today, that means publicly standing up for the right of every committed couple to openly pledge to care for each other and their families for a lifetime.

Too many out-of-touch politicians  want to attack loving families--and spend our taxpayer dollars to do it. Their attempts to exclude and divide us are detrimental to our society and deny dedicated couples legal protections and rights that should be available to everyone. We deserve elected officials who stand up, make tough choices, and do the right thing even when it isn't politically easy. Thank you, President Obama. Virginia families are grateful for your leadership.
