Romney's extreme agenda

May 3, 2012

The Virginian-Pilot reports Rep. Michele Bachmann of Minnesota, a Tea Party favorite, will endorse Mitt Romney in Portsmouth this afternoon.

Progressive Point: Virginians want economic solutions and transportation fixes. But Gov. Mitt Romney is doubling down on the same out-of-touch social issue focus that Richmond conservatives chose this year, campaigning with Rep. Michele Bachmann and her extreme policies today in the Commonwealth.

Virginians didn't support conservative attacks on women and families in the General Assembly and we aren't interested in divisive Tea Party politics now. Virginia voters can see that resorting to extreme, partisan politics is a failure to find real solutions.

Get the Facts:

  • "Bachmann's endorsement may represent another kind of victory for Romney, who has tried for months to woo support from the same Tea Party Republicans who found a hero in Bachmann last summer, propelling her own brief run for President. In Bachmann, he has one of their leaders in his corner." (MSNBC's First Read, May 3, 2012)

  • Conservative legislation in Richmond would require women seeking to have an abortion to undergo an ultrasound, be given an opportunity to view it, and then keep it in the their medical file at the facility. "The legislation is a priority for social conservatives and has support from Gov. Bob McDonnell, who called it an 'appropriate measure' during a morning radio interview." (Virginian-Pilot, February 1, 2012)
