Honoring Our Veterans

November 11, 2011

According to the Richmond Times Dispatch, "More than 822,000 Virginians -- about 10 percent of the state's population -- are veterans of the U.S. armed forces, including more than 90,000 in central Virginia."

Progressive Point: Our veterans have risked everything to serve our country and it's our duty to help them here in Virginia. Not only should we thank them for their service this Veteran's Day, but we also must do all that we can for them year round. Our veterans shouldn't have to fight for jobs when they come home and President Obama's veteran's jobs plan will help us do our part in Virginia. Our veterans have sacrificed much for us and our country, and it is one of our core values to share in their sacrifice.

Get the Facts:
"More than 822,000 Virginians -- about 10 percent of the state's population -- are veterans of the U.S. armed forces, including more than 90,000 in central Virginia, according to the Department of Veterans Affairs... Virginia is a military-friendly place for people from the armed forces to find work. The Richmond region is the third-best metropolitan area in the country for military retirees to launch a second career and Norfolk the second-best, a national report says." (Richmond Times Dispatch)
