Bob McDonnell is sponsored by polluting special interests
October 17, 2011
Governor McDonnell's second annual energy conference begins today in Richmond, featuring speakers from big donors and polluters like Dominion Virginia Power, Alpha Natural Resources, and Appalachian Power. There are no speakers from the clean energy industry. A member of the administration told the Daily Press the speakers were chosen based on the size of their sponsorship gift, although her boss later walked back that statement.
The Progressive Point: Its not surprising that Governor McDonnell would put Big Polluters first on his energy agenda. After all, he's taken over half a million dollars from the industry. Energy security and economic development are too important to be subject to politics-as-usual cronyism. We need leaders who work for the people who elected them, not the special interests who paid for their campaigns. The middle class jobs of the future are in clean energy manufacturing. We should be creating those jobs right here in Virginia. Its time we start exporting energy, not jobs.
Get the Facts:
Dominion has donated at least $328,220 to Bob McDonnell. (VPAP)
