Candlelight Vigil Honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. to be held at Capitol Square Bell Tower
Groups plan vigil to honor Dr. King's struggle and legacy
Richmond--On January 16, 2012, hundreds of Virginians will gather at the State Capitol to celebrate and honor Dr. King's legacy and values of equality, justice and opportunity.
We Are Virginia will bring King's message and a progressive vision of Virginia to our legislators, emphasizing a return to King's principles of economic and social justice.
What: Candlelight vigil honoring the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
When: 5pm-6pm, Monday, January 16th (Martin Luther King Day)
Where: Bell Tower, Capitol Square, Richmond, VA
Who: Speakers include:
Reverend Charles F. Baugham, Sr. is the pastor of St. James Baptist Church, Milford. He and his wife Justine have been married for nearly 44 years. He has two children and five grandchildren. He has been a volunteer in the Central Virginia Community for over 40 years.
Rabbi Ben Romer presides over Congregation Or-Ami here in Richmond. Previously, he served congregations in Florida, Indiana, South Carolina and North Carolina. He served as a military chaplain for 22 years, and was the only rabbi to deploy for Operation Just Cause and the first rabbi into Saudi Arabia and Iraq during Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm. Rabbi Romer is a member of the Governor's Faith Based Initiative Advisory Board.
Shaykh Ammar Amonette is a Muslim theologian and a graduate of the Graduate Institute for Imams -Makkah and of Umm al Qura University. He is the Imam of The Islamic Center of Virginia, the largest mosque in Central Virginia.
