“For Our Families” Campaign Launches to Expose Scott Taylor’s Record on Undermining Tidewater Families

Seven-figure campaign will educate constituents on Taylor’s support for repealing the ACA and support of the #TrumpTax

Virginia Beach—Advocates this week launched “For Our Families,” a new campaign to hold Congressman Scott Taylor accountable for his votes against working families in Hampton Roads. The campaign will bring awareness to Virginians this spring and summer about Taylor’s policies that undermine opportunities for working families, including votes to repeal the Affordable Care Act and support for tax cuts for the super wealthy and corporations at the expense of working families.

Kicking off the campaign, For Our Families and local advocates for affordable health care will gather near Taylor’s Virginia Beach office Friday morning to mark the 8th anniversary of the Affordable Care Act and highlight conservatives’ ongoing attempts to undermine Virginia families’ access to quality, affordable health care.  In Congress, Taylor voted for the American Health Care Act, legislation that will take away health care from over a half million Virginians, including 45,500 individuals in the 2nd district. Taylor’s opposition to affordable health care is long-standing. As a member of the Virginia House of Delegates, he also voted against expanding Medicaid to provide care for to up to 400,000 Virginians.

The For Our Families’ steering committee includes Delegate Marcia Price, Katharine Goodwin of Planned Parenthood Advocates of Virginia, Julia Newton of SEIU Virginia 512, and Anna Scholl of Progress Virginia.

“Every family should have an equal opportunity to succeed,” said Progress Virginia executive director Anna Scholl. “But for too many families in Hampton Roads, their hard work is being undermined by politicians like Scott Taylor who are working to take away their health care benefits in order to pay for massive tax cuts for millionaires and billionaires. No one should have to worry about going bankrupt to pay for health care just so Donald Trump’s super wealthy donors can buy another yacht.”

Over the next several months, For Our Families will educate voters in the 2nd district on the impact of Rep. Taylor’s votes. He voted to increase health care premiums by 20% and for President Trump’s tax bill that would give massive tax breaks to the 1%.
